The Stanza has Sophie
November 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment
A bit of a mysterious one along with the literal translation of the title. “Les Stance a Sophie” deserves a second if not third viewing.
But a lightly entertaining film about what? I’m not sure. But it’s all done with cheeky fun in mind.
There’s also space for a cameo by The Art Ensemble of Chicago.. Who get down with Fontella Bass to provide “Theme De Yo Yo” for the soundtrack.

The Soundtrack and DVD are on limited at Soul Jazz.
A couple more films for thought on Who is the bPm?

We Here
November 27, 2008 · 2 Comments
This is Illa J’s new video “We Here“; I think that was the first joint I heard from Dilla’s brother and I was happy to hear this sound. The whole album (out on Delicious) has that Slum Village “Fantastic” sound and that’s a positive thing, it’s big like that. Love the track and now like the video too, starts with the Kraftwerk hi-hats:

Kaidi Tatham has been sent to me this morning by Kentaro of Freedom-School. Zaid Mudhaffer from Spine Magazine did this nice interview with Mr. Tatham and it might be included into the album artwork (linernotes). Check it out here:
“In Search Of Hope” will be out on December 13th on Freedom-School.

Jose James x Neville Malcolm @ Studio Brussel
November 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Right, my man Philippe, who works at Studio Brussel (Yes, the station that hosts “The Hop”) sent me this link today (click on -vertellen-); Jose James and bassist Neville Malcolm came by the studio in his show called “Antenna” to talk about their 3 favorite albums. A very interesting show talking about Al Green, Miles Davis and of course Marvin Gaye…

The Hop #12
November 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Again & again… I started this show with a beautiful track by Q-Tip that you might know, at least if you support the artist you should’ve the album already bumpin’ in the car. There’s Guynamite “Start Again” I got from Nik Weston, thanks for that man, I keep spinning that joint all the time; love it! Jake One & Illa J on the hiphop tip, and an exclusive joint by Dorian Concept (watch that whitelabel Nod Navigators thingaling coming soon on KS!). A couple of classic joints such as Herbie Hancock & Booker T. Averheart but the most enjoyable beat at this time must be ….. (guess it.)
Enjoy by clicking on the picture:
