Just got this email from MPM aka Melting Pot Music; about a 7″ called Marvin Daye; That’s Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” in a DJ Day edit. It’s a lovely tune and a beautiful edit. On another note, there’s a couple releases coming out really soon on the label so please make sure to check this out:
It’s an interesting release; the video with Kissey is actually very nice shot, it’s just that I don’t know what to think about the track; it might grow on me, might not, anyway, it’s time to check it out!
I’m looking forward to more new material from the label, doing a great job which is not always easy in the music industry today. Big Up MPM, Wido & Olski!
Since I know we have readers from France and more specifically Paris, it’s my due to show the guys some respect for what they are building. Nassim @ Nujazzspirit just talked to me about the party they will have on the 27th of this month. “Jazz Attitudes” is the kind of party that wants to give you the best in the huge world that is Jazz music. Of course this means you’ll have some broken beat, acid jazz, jazz funk, dancefloor jazz and all that brought to you by deejays Psycut & Koko (who are the promoters); Also, you will have the chance to hear Dusty (Jazz Liberatorz) on the turntables and Manu Boubli, who’s the co-founder of Comet and Mind Records. It’s going down @ “Les Coulisses” and if you’re a local you know where it’s at, if not just get on the “metro” and stop at “Anvers” (which means Antwerp in french).
I think it’s important to support events like that, promoting good music is a must today and we all know there’s enough people into good music, especially in Paris. Et maintenant, allons faire la fête! Voila.
As a child (I’m still one) I used to play with Lego (and Playmobil too); I remember we couldn’t afford to buy the TGV french high-speed train in Lego version (it still makes me cry sometimes) but I had a beautiful Lego Technics car (I still have it somewhere I think). So I was surprised by seeing these classic hiphop covers done with Lego figurines, such a nice idea. Format Magazine has done 20 covers for fun. Check them out.
Another edition! With new music by Peven Everett (remember his “Studio Confessions” album? sick! ), another remix of Erykah’s “Real Thing” by my buddy from Berlin Flako. A new member on Compost Records called Wigald Boning, happy music by Kotchy and I had to put this Emanative track somewhere in there… 55min of beautiful music, enjoy it now.
Dopeness Galore, the Amsterdam based label is about to drop a very interesting record by the man with the superb voice (Jose sounds a bit like him I think) and an immense talent, a popular jazz artist called Chet Baker. They went through his last recordings and found some unbelievable sessions and even his last recording with a band in April ‘88. Dopeness galore mad a “Finest” compilation out of Chet’s recordings, completed with pictures and the whole story of his last days. This is some exclusive music, a must have in your collection. This is jazz the way I like it. More info soon.
Mochilla, a production company formed by super photographers B+ (Brian Cross) and Eric Coleman dropped a while ago a serie of mixes (by DJ Nuts, J.Rocc, Coleman & B+) and they are back with another serie of dope mixes. This time L.A. local cats Kutmah, Shafiq (Sa-Ra), Madlib and Ras G gave you splendid mixes of music. Madlib decided to mix some Brazilian goodies while Kutmah prefers to serve you the more soulful side of music. You can expect the typical noisy sound of Ras G, nice rhythms, beats in general and Shafiq Husayn drops a beautiful mix of disco, psychedelic stuff and hiphop, the Master-Teacher killed it. The serie is available at the Mochilla shop or at Rush Hour.
Man, I’ve been listening to this joint “When On Earth” the whole day and it’s just amazing.
It’s produced by Emanative or Nick Woodmansey and features the beautiful voice of Liz Elensky; It’s out on 7″ only (just bought it) and released by Futuristica Music . Listen to it, I hear 4Hero, do you? There’s also another version of it remixed by Mark Rapson, it’s smooth.
Nick, thank you for this man, it’s nice to hear some great tunes like that one. I still need an Mp3 version of it (so I don’t have to convert)…anyone?
Jay Scarlett x Circulations present: New Worlds – There are some beautiful beats on this compilation, I’ve been impressed since I got it and I had to wait until the release date (to talk about it) and finally here it is. “New Worlds” features some of the finest producers such as Sa-Ra & Ras G, but also Japanese finest Super Smoky Soul, Hudson Mohawke and my favorite joint by Busy. You can find some extra info about this on Kenny Fresh.
